There’s a concept I’ve returned to many times: you cannot fill a cup that’s already full. It sounds simple. It is simple. And yet most people walk into new seasons — new quarters, new phases, new chapters — carrying everything from the last one.
You end summer and immediately start strategizing for fall. The questions you haven’t answered from Q2 are still open. The patterns you identified but haven’t changed are still running. The mental weight of everything you intended to do but didn’t accumulates into a low-grade static that makes it harder to think clearly about anything new.
Subtraction is not just a business concept. It’s a mental one.
Before the fall push begins, the most productive thing you can do is empty the cup. Not analyze everything. Not process every lesson. Just make space. Let some things stay unanswered. Let some questions remain open without urgency. Let summer close without tying a bow on all of it.
The mind that enters September with space will outperform the mind that enters September crowded. Clarity doesn’t come from thinking harder. It comes from creating room for something true to surface.
Clear what you can. Let go of the rest. The new season will bring its own content.
The Takeaway
You can’t think clearly into the future while you’re still full of the past — empty the cup before fall begins.
Keep Moving Forward!
