Ambition is rocket fuel — but only if you aim it at the right target. The wrong kind just blows up in your face.
For years, I carried a list of “big ideas” like a badge of honor. New ventures. New markets. New partnerships. Every one of them sounded brilliant over coffee. The problem? Most of them had nothing to do with my core mission. They weren’t building momentum — they were bleeding it.
The turning point came when I finally asked myself one uncomfortable question: If I say yes to this, what am I saying no to?
When I answered honestly, I realized I’d been spending prime energy on things that were only loosely connected to my real goals. They were good opportunities — just not my opportunities. And every hour I spent chasing them was an hour stolen from the work that mattered most.
Letting go wasn’t easy. Ambition feeds the ego, and walking away from “good” feels like failure. But the space I created by cutting the non-essentials became rocket fuel for the things that truly mattered. Results came faster. Decisions got clearer. And the mission started to breathe again.
The Takeaway
Ambition is only powerful when it’s focused. Let go of the good to make room for the great.
Keep Moving Forward!
