There was a time when I thought reviewing my decisions made me responsible. I’d make a choice, then keep checking it, refining it, questioning it — as if uncertainty was a sign of intelligence. It wasn’t. It was fear dressed up as “thoughtfulness.”
What I didn’t see was that constant revisiting was eroding my confidence. Every time I second-guessed myself, I reinforced the identity of someone who couldn’t trust their own judgment. That becomes a loop, and loops become habits.
The shift happened when I noticed how often nothing actually changed. The facts were the same. The risk was the same. The only thing moving was my anxiety. I wasn’t improving the decision — I was feeding doubt.
So I tried something simple: I gave my decisions an expiration date. If no new information showed up, the decision stood. No more mental trials. No more rehearsing alternatives. Just forward.
That was the epiphany: clarity doesn’t come from endless options. It comes from choosing one and becoming the person who follows through.
