When things get routine, most people reach for novelty. A new project. A new focus. A new direction.
Sometimes that’s right. But often it’s avoidance dressed as ambition.
Boredom in the middle of something that’s working is worth sitting with before you act on it. The question isn’t: what’s the new thing? The question is: what is this feeling telling me?
Sometimes boredom means you’ve outgrown the work and it genuinely needs to change. I’ve had those moments. You can feel the difference — the energy has shifted, the challenge is gone, the growth has stopped.
But more often, boredom in the middle of a build means you’ve hit the unglamorous middle — the phase where the initial excitement has faded and the result isn’t visible yet. And the temptation is to restart somewhere more exciting rather than push through to where the work pays off.
The unglamorous middle is where most people quit. It’s also where most of the real building happens.
Ask yourself honestly: am I bored because this is done, or because it’s hard? The answer determines whether the move is forward, sideways, or just deeper.
The Takeaway
Boredom in the middle of something that’s working is often the unglamorous middle — sit with it before you act on it.
Keep Moving Forward!
