Every execution push requires an honest look at the foundation.
Before I commit to a serious stretch of output — a real build, a focused month, a period where I need to be at my best — I always check the same things. Not my calendar. Not my task list. My body.
How am I actually sleeping? Not roughly, not kind of. How am I sleeping?
What am I eating when things get busy — when the easy choice is available and the right one requires effort? What happens to my movement when my schedule fills up? When is the last time I actually felt rested?
Most people never ask these questions before they start. They just go. And then wonder why the output drops in week three, why the decisions get worse, why the energy they had at the start of the month isn’t there at the end.
Your physical baseline is the engine. The plan, the goals, the ambition — those are the vehicle. But if the engine is already running rough before the drive starts, no amount of better navigation is going to get you there.
I don’t need perfect health to execute. Nobody does. But I need to know where I am. I need to know what I’m working with.
This week — before the month gets going — do a real check. Sleep, food, movement, rest. Not a biohacking audit. A simple, honest answer to: what shape is this engine actually in right now?
From there, you know what to protect.
The Takeaway
Before you commit to executing, check the engine — your body sets the ceiling on everything else.
Keep Moving Forward!
